CondolenceCathedral of Santa Maria Del Fiore
Suspended Restaurant and
Deceased Dining

“Cooking and corpses both transform and construct social rituals in which we come together and think about life, death, and life after loss; food is a mediating agent between heaven and earth and life and death.”

Dying to Eat: Cross-Cultural Perspectives on Food, Death, and the Afterlife

Through an anachronistic lens, meal of condolence contemplates the question; how can food act as a mediating agent between the realms of the living and the dead? As well as what does the future of our afterlife look like? The space is a suspended restaurant within florence’s cathedral  - Santa Maria Del Fiore; in which one can dine with the deceased. This radical notion is made possible through the current advancements in the preservation of life and consciousness through modern technology.
